Country Risk Manager

About the role

The Country Risk Manager will lead Mashreq's risk management function in Kuwait, overseeing all risk classes and ensuring alignment with local regulations, Mashreq Group standards, and international best practices. This senior role collaborates closely with senior management, the Management Committee (MANCO), and Group Risk to support strategic objectives and embed robust governance frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate day‑to‑day risk activities across the country, working with Head‑Office Risk teams.
• Establish and manage the local Risk Management Committee, including charter, terms of reference, and meeting minutes.
• Implement the International Risk Management framework and maintain the Level 3 Country Risk Appetite.
• Maintain local risk policies, processes, and ensure compliance with regulatory and Basel requirements.
• Provide enterprise risk management support, including RCSA design, testing, and training.
• Oversee operational risk oversight, credit bureau reviews, risk indicator implementation, and audit readiness.
• Prepare concise risk reports for committees, senior management, and highlight material ad‑hoc risk information.
• Monitor credit portfolio performance, delinquency, loss rates, covenant compliance, and collateral adequacy.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in risk management within the banking or financial services sector.
• Strong knowledge of Basel regulations, local risk regulatory frameworks, and international risk standards.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and coordinate with head‑office risk functions.
• Excellent analytical and governance skills, with a track record of establishing risk committees and policies.
