Inpatient Rehab Documentation Coordinator

About the role

The Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist for Inpatient Rehabilitation ensures that the medical record accurately reflects patient complexity, resources used, and compliance requirements. Reporting to the Rehab Quality/PPS Manager, the role also acts as the RN representative on weekly Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) conferences.

Key responsibilities

• Review and validate clinical documentation to align with the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility‑Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF‑PAI).
• Conduct direct clinical interviews and record reviews to confirm patient status and resource utilization.
• Lead discussions during IDT meetings with physicians, therapists, and case managers.
• Maintain compliance with coding standards and reimbursement guidelines.
• Collaborate with quality and compliance teams to improve documentation processes.

Required profile

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in an Inpatient Rehab Facility or Acute Care setting.
• Proficiency in ICD‑10‑CM coding and Section GG functional scoring.
• Strong analytical ability with high attention to detail.
• Confidence to lead interdisciplinary discussions.
