Inpatient Rehab Documentation Coordinator

About the role

The Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist for Inpatient Rehabilitation ensures that the medical record accurately reflects patient complexity and the resources used, bridging clinical care, compliance, and reimbursement. Reporting to the Rehab Quality/PPS Manager, the role also acts as the RN representative on weekly Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) conferences.

Key responsibilities

• Review patient records and conduct clinical interviews to align documentation with the IRF‑PAI requirements.
• Lead discussions during IDT meetings with physicians, therapists, and case managers to clarify patient status.
• Identify and resolve clinical inconsistencies across disciplines to support accurate coding and billing.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and support quality reporting.

Required profile

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in an Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) or acute‑care setting.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to spot documentation gaps.
• Confident communicator capable of leading multidisciplinary discussions.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ICD‑10‑CM coding.
• Knowledge of Section GG functional scoring.
