Manager, Trade Finance Operations

About the role

The Manager, Trade Finance Operations is responsible for overseeing all trade finance transactions, including Letters of Credit, Guarantees, and Bills Collections for both import and export activities. The role ensures compliance with bank policies, UCP guidelines, and local regulations while delivering high‑quality service to customers.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and verify customer and correspondent lines for LC and LG transactions, obtaining approvals for excess limits.
• Review LC applications for completeness and conformity with International Code of Uniform Customs and Practices.
• Process import/export documents, handle SWIFT messages, resolve discrepancies, and manage refunds and interest claims.
• Prepare financial vouchers, LC/LG instruments, and related documentation in the Intellect system.
• Manage inward and outward bills collection, prepare settlement instructions, and monitor maturities.
• Maintain registers of opened LCs, LGs, and collection bills; reconcile outstanding items.
• Provide training and guidance to junior staff.
• Assist in specifying enhancements for the Intellect or new trade finance systems.
• Ensure internal control compliance, prepare periodic MIS reports, and handle customer queries.

Required profile

• University degree with at least 8 years of experience in banking, specifically trade finance.
• Strong knowledge of bank policy manuals, A&OM, CBK regulations, UCP, URC, and other international trade finance rules.
• Proven ability to work accurately under regulatory and compliance requirements.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SWIFT messaging.
• Experience using the Intellect banking system.
