Director of Internal Audit

About the role

The American International University (AIU) is seeking a Director of Internal Audit to lead an independent, risk‑based assurance function that supports its RISE Strategy 2026‑2030. Reporting functionally to the Audit & Risk Committee and administratively to the President, the Director will ensure that institutional processes, controls and governance mechanisms operate effectively and meet accreditation requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an annual audit plan approved by the Board Audit & Risk Committee.
• Conduct independent operational audits across five domains: operational processes, governance & compliance, IT governance, research grant management, and student affairs.
• Assess the design and operating effectiveness of workflows from student admissions to faculty evaluation.
• Identify gaps, quantify risks, and provide practical, implementable recommendations.
• Track corrective action implementation and report findings to senior leadership and the Board.
• Coordinate with external auditors to avoid duplication of financial audit work.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading internal audit functions in complex organizations.
• Strong understanding of higher‑education operations, accreditation standards, and risk management.
• Ability to communicate findings to senior leadership and governance bodies.
