Director of the Foundation Program

About the role

American International University (AIU), a private institution in Kuwait founded in 2019, is seeking an experienced Director of its Foundation Program. Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director provides strategic academic and operational leadership for the program, which offers English and Mathematics preparation together with study skills, and works with academic schools and student support units to help students transition into credit-bearing courses.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the English and Mathematics preparatory programs, including study skills components.
• Lead the development and implementation of program goals, procedures and activities in line with the VPAA and academic leadership.
• Oversee course scheduling, faculty coordination, teaching assignments and program logistics.
• Monitor student performance, progression and retention data and use them to improve the program.
• Coordinate with Admissions, Academic Advising, Student Support and other units to support students' transition into degree programs.
• Oversee learning spaces, laboratories, instructional resources and related facilities.
• Promote continuous improvement in curriculum, teaching, assessment and student support.
• Prepare program reports and documentation, support faculty development and represent the program on university committees.
• Teach one course per semester, or as otherwise determined by the University.

Required profile

• PhD in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Mathematics, Education or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in higher education, preferably in foundation, preparatory or developmental education programs.
• Experience in academic leadership, program management and faculty coordination.
