Full Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor of Graphic Design

About the role

The School of Architecture and Design at American International University in Kuwait is seeking a full-time faculty member in Graphic Design at the rank of Full Professor, Associate Professor or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will specialise in Illustration and Printmaking and bring excellence in studio-based teaching, an active record of research and/or professional creative practice, and expertise in traditional and contemporary visual communication methods. The position reports to the Dean of the School.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate studio and lecture courses in Illustration and Printmaking, covering traditional and digital illustration, printmaking processes (screen printing, relief, intaglio, experimental print) and visual storytelling.
• Integrate contemporary tools and hybrid methods that combine traditional print techniques with digital platforms.
• Update course content in line with industry standards and accreditation requirements such as NASAD.
• Supervise senior capstone projects and guide students in building professional portfolios, while maintaining rigorous studio critique and assessment.
• Maintain an active research agenda or professional creative practice, publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at national and international conferences, and take part in exhibitions, juried shows, artist residencies and external funding initiatives.
• Take part in departmental, school and university committees, accreditation documentation, quality assurance, student recruitment, outreach and community engagement, and advise and mentor students.

Required profile

• Master of Fine Arts or PhD in Graphic Design, Visual Communication or a closely related field, or an MFA in Graphic Design, Illustration or Printmaking from an accredited institution.
• At least five years of university-level teaching experience (for senior ranks), with proven excellence in studio-based instruction in illustration and/or printmaking.
• A strong portfolio showing professional and/or research-based work in illustration and printmaking.
• Evidence of peer-reviewed publications, exhibitions, creative production or recognised professional practice.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency in traditional printmaking techniques.
• Digital design software (Adobe Creative Cloud, illustration platforms, digital print workflows).
• Proven excellence in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Graphic Design.
