Lead Process Safety Management (PSM) Specialist

About the role

The Lead PSM Specialist will implement and maintain Process Safety Management systems for upstream oil & gas operations in Kuwait, ensuring safety culture and compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain technical safety documentation such as TSE philosophies, AI‑PS principles and project specifications.
• Provide design, technical support and troubleshooting for upstream processes, focusing on inherently safer design.
• Conduct hazard identification (HAZID), HAZOP, LOPA, QRA (PHAST) and CFD analyses.
• Lead major hazard incident investigations and develop emergency preparedness plans.
• Prepare PSM communication tools (newsletters, presentations, videos, posters).

Required profile

• 20+ years of professional experience within an oil & gas operating company.
• B.Sc. in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Chemical, Petroleum, Electrical, Instrument Engineering or equivalent.
• Proven ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Hazard identification and risk analysis methods: HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA (PHAST), FTA, FMEA, ETA.
• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and fire protection design (active & passive).
• Leak path reduction, layout optimisation, hazardous area and toxic facility classification.
• ALARP demonstration, safety‑critical element identification and performance standards.
• Technical Pre‑Start‑Up Safety Reviews (PSSR), PHSER, PTW, JSA, Management of Change.
