Country Risk Manager – Kuwait

About the role

The Country Risk Manager will lead the risk management function for Mashreq Kuwait, overseeing all risk classes and ensuring compliance with local regulations, group standards, and international best practices. This senior position works closely with senior management, the Management Committee (MANCO), and Group Risk to support strategic objectives and embed effective governance across the bank.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and chair the local Risk Management Committee, defining its charter, terms of reference, and meeting minutes.
• Implement the International Risk Management framework and maintain the Level 3 Country Risk Appetite.
• Develop and maintain local risk policies, processes, and regulatory compliance documentation, including Basel requirements.
• Coordinate enterprise risk management activities with Head Office Risk, providing guidance on operational risk, RCSA design, testing, and monitoring.
• Oversee credit bureau reviews, risk indicator implementation, and audit readiness for the branch.
• Prepare concise risk reports for committees, highlighting exposures, stress‑test results, and material ad‑hoc information.
• Monitor credit portfolio performance, delinquency trends, covenant compliance, and collateral valuations.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in risk management within the banking sector, preferably at a country‑level leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of local risk regulations, Basel standards, and international risk frameworks.
• Proven ability to interact with senior executives, committees, and regulatory bodies.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and governance skills.
