Lead Design Engineer – Process Safety (Principal Safety Engineer)

About the role

Worley is seeking a Lead Design Engineer to provide Process Safety and HSE expertise during the conceptual phases of major energy and chemicals projects. The role will drive risk management, loss prevention and safety system integration for projects in Kuwait.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and define safety engineering scope in FEED documentation.
• Lead or contribute to PHSER, ESIA, HAZID and HAZOP reviews and workshops.
• Review and provide feedback on project deliverables, including procedures, design basis, HSE plans and activity schedules.
• Conduct fire and explosion analyses, fire‑protection studies and preliminary hazardous area classifications.
• Facilitate SIL assessments and perform formal safety assessments.
• Define design requirements for active and passive fire protection systems and assess contractor designs for compliance.
• Mentor and lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians and specialists.
• Audit contractor risk‑management and HSE plans to ensure alignment with Worley, KOC and Kuwait legislative standards.

Required profile

• Engineering bachelor’s degree (MSc preferred).
• Proven experience in Process Safety and HSE at the conceptual stage of large projects.
• Background in an operation company with hands‑on use of relevant safety software.
• Strong knowledge of international hazard, risk and environmental management standards.
• Experience leading HAZOP/HAZID workshops and conducting risk assessments.
