LDAR Technician – Leak Detection and Repair

About the role

The Lead Technician (LDAR) is responsible for conducting leak detection surveys of light hydrocarbons, gas service lines, components and equipment using advanced infrared cameras and toxic vapor analyzers. The role ensures compliance with EPA standards, generates accurate leak rate calculations, and supports timely repairs.

Key responsibilities

• Familiarize with existing and new databases & P&ID’s, confirm all streams/services are identified, and report discrepancies.
• Perform leak detection surveys using IR cameras, classify leaks, and issue repair work orders based on repair criteria.
• Quantify leaks with a Toxic Vapor Analyzer, report to operations, and categorize as “repairable online” or “requires shutdown”.
• Monitor flare relief valves using FLIR T640 thermal camera and VPAC II UT devices.
• Maintain electronic daily activity reports, compile monitoring records, and generate weekly, monthly, and cycle reports.
• Schedule internal plans, assign assistant technicians, and respond to 24/7 emergency callouts.

Required profile

• High School Certificate/Diploma with at least 5 years of experience in similar LDAR projects.
• Minimum 2 years of experience operating IR cameras for leak detection.
• Superior command of English (reading, writing, oral).
• Valid Kuwait or GCC driving license and ability to pass Permit to Work tests.

Required skills

• Advanced infrared (IR) camera operation.
• Toxic Vapor Analyzer (TVA) usage.
• FLIR T640 thermal camera and VPAC II UT device handling.
• Knowledge of USEPA M21 – EPA‑453/R‑95‑017 leak rate calculations.
• Database management for LDAR components and reporting.
