Assistant Driller

About the role

The Assistant Driller supports the Driller in all rig floor activities, ensuring safe and efficient execution of drilling and work‑over programs. This on‑site position involves supervising junior crew members, preparing equipment, and monitoring drilling parameters to maximise operational performance.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Driller with rig preparation, equipment assembly and routine inspections.
• Supervise and train junior crew (derrick men, floor men, roustabouts) on safety and operational procedures.
• Arrange drill string, bottom‑hole assemblies and coordinate pipe and drill collar changes.
• Drift and measure pipe, maintain accurate pipe‑tally and BHA/completion records.
• Monitor the mud circulation system, report changes in mud characteristics and advise on chemical usage.
• Support BOP nipping, pipe handling, tongs, slips and connection make‑up.
• Identify equipment requiring repair or replacement and initiate corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with ADES operating procedures, JSA and PTW requirements.

Required profile

• Experience working on a drilling rig or in a similar oil‑and‑gas environment.
• Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding offshore/on‑shore conditions.
• Strong safety awareness and ability to follow strict procedural guidelines.
• Capability to supervise and mentor junior crew members.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.

• Operation of drilling equipment and rig floor machinery.
• Rig floor equipment maintenance and lubrication.
• Drill pipe and casing handling, including BOP operation.
• Mud circulation system monitoring and fluid management.
• Pipe drifting, measurement and record‑keeping for tubular runs.
• Preparation of wellbore assemblies and BHA components.
