EHS Officer – Wastewater Treatment Plant

About the role

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Officer will support the EHS Manager in delivering and continuously improving health, safety and environmental programmes at the Sulaibiya Wastewater Treatment & Reclamation Plant. The role focuses on compliance with local legislation, Veolia policies and client requirements while fostering a strong safety culture among employees and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor daily site activities, identify unsafe conditions and report hazards.
• Support incident reporting, investigations and follow‑up on corrective actions.
• Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions and awareness sessions for staff and subcontractors.
• Assist in preparing permits to work, risk assessments and job safety analyses.
• Carry out regular site inspections, participate in audits and support emergency response drills.
• Maintain HSE records, reports and documentation in line with Veolia standards.
• Coordinate PPE issuance, inspections and ensure proper usage.
• Ensure implementation of Life Saving Rules, High Risk Management Standards and site‑specific safety campaigns.

Required profile

• Experience in occupational health, safety or environmental roles within industrial or utility settings.
• Familiarity with local HSE legislation and international best practices.
• Ability to communicate safety procedures clearly to diverse audiences.
• Proactive attitude with strong attention to detail and documentation.

Required skills

• Knowledge of permit‑to‑work systems, risk assessment and job safety analysis methods.
• Understanding of confined space, lock‑out/tag‑out, working at height, electrical safety and chemical handling procedures.
• Experience conducting safety inspections, audits and emergency drills.
