Engineering Manager – E‑commerce Platforms

About the role

We are a fast‑growing e‑commerce company operating across the GCC, looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead backend teams that own critical customer‑facing capabilities such as catalog, search, pricing, cart, checkout and payments. This senior leadership role blends people management, hands‑on technical depth, architecture thinking and AI‑assisted engineering practices.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop high‑performing backend engineering teams building large‑scale e‑commerce services.
• Provide technical direction across Java‑based microservices and actively participate in architecture and system‑design discussions.
• Review and challenge designs for scalability, performance, resilience, security and cost.
• Establish measurable SLOs, drive performance improvements and ensure services are resilient to partial failures.
• Promote engineering excellence through code‑review culture, automated testing, CI/CD and observability.
• Coach engineers on responsible AI‑assisted development and evaluate emerging AI tools.

Required profile

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend focus.
• 3+ years in engineering management, technical lead or equivalent senior leadership roles.
• Proven experience delivering large‑scale, high‑traffic transactional platforms, preferably in e‑commerce or marketplace domains.
• Demonstrated ability to build and operate distributed systems at scale and to mentor technical leaders.

Required skills

• Java and Spring Boot.
• Microservices architecture, REST APIs, event‑driven design, messaging.
• Kafka (or similar), Redis, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch.
• SQL and NoSQL databases.
• AWS (or comparable public cloud), Docker, Kubernetes.
• CI/CD pipelines, modern observability and APM tools.
