Mechanical Lifting & DROPS Subject Matter Expert

About the role

The Mechanical Lifting & DROPS Subject Matter Expert Lead is the authority for safe design, planning, execution and continuous improvement of mechanical lifting and dropped‑objects‑prevention activities on the Mutriba Field Development Project. The role combines hands‑on supervision of critical lifts with assurance of the project’s DROPS system implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, preparation, implementation, monitoring and review of Mechanical Lifting Plans (MLPs) for all project phases.
• Review and validate critical lifting plans, categorize lifts using the Lift Categorization Questionnaire and route critical and non‑routine lifts to the appropriate channels.
• Supervise execution of non‑routine, critical and complex lifts, including rig mobilisations, initial rig moves, skidding operations and de‑mobilisations.
• Ensure lifting risk assessments (HARC/JSA) are prepared, reviewed and approved before any lift.
• Assess Pre‑Job Safety Meetings and verify that controls identified in the MLP and HARC are communicated and understood.
• Advise on suspension of lifts during adverse weather and enforce clear resumption criteria.
• Maintain and audit Project Lifting Equipment Registers, ensuring all equipment is inspected, certified and fit for purpose.
• Verify third‑party lifting equipment holds valid certification from an LEEA‑accredited or equivalent body.
• Drive compliance with SLB Mechanical Lifting Standard (SLB‑HSE‑S013) and Mechanical Lifting B.O.O.K. (SLB‑HSE‑M013) across all contractors.
• Conduct regular audits of lifting activities and equipment, document findings and track corrective actions.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in mechanical lifting and DROPS programmes within oil‑and‑gas or similar high‑risk environments.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage contractor interfaces.
• Strong knowledge of relevant safety standards, regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
