Mechanical Technician – Rolling Mills

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our multicultural team in Kuwait, focusing on the maintenance and repair of rolling mill equipment. The role involves preparing spares, performing offline repairs, and supporting reliability and safety objectives across the plant.

Key responsibilities

• Repair damaged or defective equipment such as gearboxes, air blowers, compressors, overhead cranes, pumps, rollers and gear motors during breakdowns and mill shutdowns.
• Carry out preventive maintenance activities including periodic servicing, cleaning, bolt tightening and condition‑based replacement of knives, push rods, rollers, conveyors, cylinders, wire ropes and bearings.
• Prepare and manage the spare parts required for mechanical maintenance.
• Attend breakdowns, minimise unplanned shutdowns and conduct delay analysis.
• Recondition hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders using appropriate repair kits.
• Maintain overhead cranes by replacing wire ropes, wheels and brake elements based on condition and performing fixed‑time servicing.
• Align machines and equipment using precision instruments such as the SKF Laser alignment tool, dial gauge indicator, Vernier calipers and micrometres.
• Remove and replace flexible and rigid couplings on DC drive motors and other rotating parts.

Required profile

• Experienced Mechanical Fitter or Technician with a strong background in industrial plant maintenance.
• Ability to work effectively during roughing changes, size changes and mill breakdowns.
• Proven track record of delivering high‑quality workmanship while minimising downtime.

Required skills

• Mechanical repair of gearboxes, compressors, pumps and rollers.
• Preventive maintenance and condition‑based replacement techniques.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder repair.
• Overhead crane maintenance and wire‑rope handling.
• Machine alignment using SKF Laser alignment tool, dial gauge indicator, Vernier calipers and micrometres.
• Proficient use of hand tools such as wrenches, hammers and spanners.
• Coupling removal and replacement for DC drive motors and rotating shafts.
