Mold Designer – Thermoforming Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a Mold Designer to join our packaging production team, focusing on thermoforming molds for plastic packaging applications. The role involves creating detailed designs, supporting mold trials, and ensuring high-quality, efficient mold performance.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop thermoforming molds based on product specifications.
• Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Perform reverse engineering of existing molds and tooling when required.
• Collaborate with CNC machining, tool room, and production teams to guarantee manufacturability and accuracy.
• Select appropriate mold materials according to product and production needs.
• Support mold trials, identify design or manufacturing issues, and implement modifications.
• Troubleshoot mold-related production problems and propose improvements to enhance product quality, cycle time, and performance.
• Ensure designs incorporate correct tolerances, fits, surface finishes, and manufacturability considerations.
• Manage the full mold development cycle from concept through final approval.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in mold design, preferably in thermoforming or plastic manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of mold manufacturing and CNC machining processes.
• Proficiency in CAD/design software, with SolidWorks preferred.
• Ability to prepare and interpret technical drawings.
• Good problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
