Principal Piping Engineer – Lead Design Engineer I

About the role

The Principal Piping Engineer will lead all design and drafting activities for the assigned asset, ensuring safe and sustainable infrastructure delivery. Reporting to senior project management, the role combines technical expertise with team leadership in a complex oil & gas environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop equipment arrangements and piping layouts in collaboration with design teams.
• Produce original designs, specifications, and reports; coordinate with drafters, designers and supervising engineers.
• Review drawings, models and submittals, maintaining knowledge of pipe stress, supports and constructability.
• Balance design detail with construction cost and complexity, ensuring work packs are complete.
• Conduct site investigations, prepare reports and integrate feedback from supervisors and superintendents.
• Apply quality‑assurance requirements and adhere to OH&S procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Piping Engineering.
• Minimum 15 years total experience, with at least 10 years in oil, gas, refinery or petrochemical projects.
• At least 5 years as a Lead Design Engineer or equivalent.
• Proven experience in Middle‑East project environments and in a PMC setting.
• Strong background in contractor‑driven delivery models.

Required skills

• Advanced engineering drafting and checking capabilities.
• Proficiency in 2D CAD drawing production.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling.
• Knowledge of pipe stress analysis and pipe support design.
• Ability to produce detailed design documentation.
