Process Safety Management (PSM) Engineer

About the role

Bureau Veritas is hiring a Process Safety Management (PSM) Engineer in Kuwait. The engineer implements PSM systems, supports upstream oil and gas operations with design and technical advice, and ensures safety in design and engineering practice.

Key responsibilities

• Implement PSM systems, including safety culture
• Develop and maintain technical safety project documentation such as TSE philosophies, AI-PS principles and project specifications
• Provide design, technical support and troubleshooting for upstream oil and gas operations
• Ensure safety in design and engineering, with inherently safer design and compliance with standards such as API, BS, JEC and NFPA
• Facilitate HAZID and run HAZOP, LOPA, QRA (PHAST, CFD) and frequency analysis (FTA, FMEA, ETA)
• Develop emergency preparedness plans and lead major hazard incident investigations
• Prepare PSM communication tools such as newsletters, presentations, videos and campaigns
• Take part in identifying safety-critical elements and developing performance standards

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Chemical, Petroleum, Electrical or Instrument Engineering, or equivalent
• 15 years of professional experience in an oil and gas operating company
• Able to work independently and in teams, as well as a team member and leader

Required skills

• Technical safety project documentation, leak path reduction, layout optimization, hazardous and toxic facility classification
• Fire protection analysis and design, flare radiation, toxic and noise assessment
• ALARP demonstration, PSSR, PHSER, safe work practices (PTW, JSA, MOC)
• Fires and explosions fundamentals, alarm management, hazardous material management
• Interface with HSE regulators, insurers and other external stakeholders
