Reliability Electrical Engineer – Steel Industry

About the role

The Reliability Electrical Engineer will lead the development and optimisation of maintenance strategies for critical electrical assets in a steel manufacturing environment. You will apply reliability engineering methods to reduce downtime, improve safety, and support long‑term asset performance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and optimise maintenance strategies (RCM, FMEA, PM optimisation).
• Define criticality ranking and risk‑based maintenance approaches.
• Standardise reliability engineering methodologies and lead root‑cause analysis for major failures.
• Validate technical conclusions, corrective actions and ensure elimination of systemic failure patterns.
• Support CAPEX justification and lifecycle cost analysis using reliability data.
• Identify chronic assets, analyse Weibull trends and failure statistics.
• Ensure SAP‑PM data integrity for reliability studies and act as technical reference for maintenance teams.
• Mentor engineers, challenge technical decisions when required and align training programmes with reliability best practices.
• Prepare weekly, monthly and annual reliability reports for management review.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree advantageous).
• Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical maintenance, reliability engineering or asset performance, with at least 3 years in electrical reliability engineering.
• Proven experience with RCM and condition‑based monitoring in steel or heavy‑industry environments.
• Professional certifications in reliability engineering, RCM, vibration analysis or condition monitoring are a plus.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and steel‑plant equipment.
• Proficiency in reliability methods (FMEA, RCM) and risk assessment.
• Expertise in root‑cause analysis techniques (fault tree, fishbone, Pareto).
• Ability to analyse data, identify trends and develop preventive/predictive maintenance strategies.
• Familiarity with condition‑monitoring techniques (vibration, thermography, oil analysis).
• Experience with CMMS/EAM tools and SAP PM/MM.
