Rig Safety Officer

About the role

The Rig Safety Officer promotes and enforces all QHSSE requirements on board, drives the implementation and continuous improvement of the Barrier Management System (BMS), and provides HSE guidance to all personnel on the rig.

Key responsibilities

• Disseminate HSE policies, procedures and guidance documentation across the rig.
• Maintain a strong on‑site presence, especially in high‑risk areas such as the deck and drill floor, spending at least 75% of the day on the worksite.
• Lead safety programs (e.g., ADES 8 keys, TOFS award) and ensure all crew understand and apply them.
• Support the Senior Tool Pusher in monitoring compliance with control‑of‑work systems (JSA, SOPs, PTW, isolation, confined space, rescue planning).
• Assist with internal and external audits, incident reporting, investigations and root‑cause analysis.
• Conduct onboard training, orientation and ensure crew meet the training matrix requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a Rig Safety Officer or similar HSE role within the drilling industry.
• Completion of all ADES mandatory training requirements.
• Relevant HSE certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA) and formal investigation training (Taproot®, Topset®) preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of Barrier Management System (BMS) and HSE compliance tools (JSA, SOP, PTW, isolation, confined‑space procedures).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for safety briefings and documentation.
