Phlebotomist

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our clinical laboratory team. The role involves performing sterile capillary pricks and venipuncture to collect blood samples while ensuring high quality and safety throughout the phlebotomy process.

Key responsibilities

• Identify veins accurately and perform venipuncture and capillary sampling.
• Verify electronic test orders in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and label samples with barcodes.
• Handle lab reception duties, dispatch samples, and assist with reagent and supply management.
• Collect blood from patients of all ages using appropriate collection tubes and containers.
• Respond to emergencies such as fainting or bleeding and alert technicians promptly.
• Perform Point‑Of‑Care Testing (POCT) and answer phone inquiries.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient results and adhere to standard operating procedures.
• Support urgent specimen handling and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Head of Unit.

Required profile

• Minimum four years of phlebotomy experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Lab Technology (MLT) or Diploma in Medical Lab Technology (DMLT).
• Fluent written and spoken English; basic Arabic is a plus.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with physicians, nurses and patients.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy techniques for capillary and venous sampling.
• Proficiency with Laboratory Information System (LIS) and barcode labeling.
• Experience with ACI or CAP accreditation programs.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word applications.
• Ability to conduct Point‑Of‑Care Testing (POCT).
