Internal Auditor

About the role

American International University (AIU), a private university in Kuwait founded in 2019, is hiring an Internal Auditor. The position sits within the Office of Internal Audit, an independent assurance and advisory function reporting to the Director of Internal Audit. The auditor carries out operational, compliance and risk-based audits across academic and administrative units, evaluates internal controls, identifies risks and supports corrective actions.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in the annual risk-based Internal Audit Plan and conduct operational, compliance and process audits across departments
• Carry out fieldwork: interviews, process walkthroughs, document reviews and testing of internal controls
• Evaluate the effectiveness of administrative and academic processes and check that corrective actions from previous audits are implemented
• Review compliance with University policies, Kuwait Labour Law and regulatory requirements, and support conflict-of-interest and governance reviews
• Help identify operational risks, contribute to the risk register and monitor risk mitigation plans
• Prepare evidence-based audit reports, discuss preliminary findings with management and present results to the Director of Internal Audit
• Track management action plans, verify corrective actions and prepare follow-up reports
• Provide advisory support on internal controls and process improvements, assist in investigations of irregularities and help prepare for accreditation reviews

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Internal Auditing or a related field; Master's degree preferred
• 3 to 5 years of experience in internal auditing, operational auditing, compliance or risk management; experience in higher education, public sector or a regulated environment is an advantage
• CIA certification or progress toward it is preferred
• Knowledge of internal control frameworks and risk management principles

Required skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to write professional audit reports
• Understanding of internal control principles and audit methodologies
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and audit documentation tools
• Integrity, objectivity, confidentiality and strong organisational skills
