Country Head of Audit, Kuwait

About the role

The Country Head of Audit will lead Mashreq's internal audit function in Kuwait, ensuring robust risk assessment, compliance with regulator requirements, and effective oversight of audit activities across the bank.

Key responsibilities

• Perform annual risk assessment of the entire audit universe for Mashreq Kuwait.
• Prepare the annual audit plan, obtain Group Chief of Internal Audit approval, and monitor its execution.
• Ensure compliance with regulator guidelines and keep the Country Management Committee updated on audit status.
• Provide timely information to Country Head/Branch Management on audit planning, progress, and open issues.
• Manage a team of resident internal auditors to deliver 100% of the annual audit plan, adhering to IIA standards and quality requirements.
• Interface with regulators, representing the internal audit function and meeting regulatory expectations.
• Plan and execute audits, analyze risk gaps, and develop remedial action plans.
• Assess operational risk, assign ratings, and communicate impact of recommended actions.
• Offer consultative support to Country Management on product development and process improvement.

Required profile

• Degree educated with further qualifications such as ACCA, ACA, CPA, MBA or CIA.
• 15+ years of audit experience, primarily in banking, with at least 5 years in a supervisory/managerial role.
• Deep knowledge of wholesale banking products, operations, technology and risk management.
• Thorough understanding of regulatory guidelines and proven track record of managing regulator relationships.
• Strong leadership, communication and analytical skills.
