Mental Health Counsellor

About the role

The American International University in Jahra seeks a dedicated Mental Health Counsellor to provide professional counseling, crisis intervention, and wellbeing support to its student community. The role aims to foster emotional resilience, personal development, and academic success through confidential, evidence‑based services.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individual counseling to students facing emotional, psychological, behavioral, academic, or personal challenges.
• Conduct mental health assessments and create tailored support plans.
• Provide crisis intervention, risk assessment, and coordinate emergency referrals when needed.
• Maintain confidential counseling records in line with professional and legal standards.
• Refer students to external mental health professionals, medical providers, or community resources.
• Develop and facilitate workshops, support groups, outreach programs, and mental health awareness initiatives.
• Collaborate with faculty, Student Affairs, and university leadership to advance student wellbeing initiatives.
• Participate in university crisis response teams and monitor emerging mental health trends.
• Contribute to policy development and prepare utilization reports while safeguarding confidentiality.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work or a related field.
• Experience providing counseling services to young adults and university students.
• Strong knowledge of counseling theories, mental health assessment, and intervention techniques.
• Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage crisis situations professionally and effectively.
• Understanding of confidentiality, ethics, and professional counseling standards.
• Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse student populations.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
