Principal Mechanical Engineer – Lead Design Engineer (Mechanical)

About the role

Worley is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical equipment design team on oil & gas projects. The role focuses on ensuring the integrity of both static and rotating equipment throughout conceptual, FEED and detailed design phases.

Key responsibilities

• Guarantee all designs meet project specifications, client, international and local standards.
• Prepare specifications and evaluate rotating equipment packages.
• Perform engineering design, conceptual layout and detailed design of compressors, pumps, generator sets, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns and storage tanks.
• Review EPC detailed designs, technical bids and vendor documentation.
• Allocate work to team members, supervise tasks and ensure compliance with quality and OH&S requirements.
• Conduct site investigations, prepare reports and ensure constructability of designs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 15 years of total experience, including at least 10 years in oil & gas, petrochemical or refinery environments.
• At least 5 years in a senior leadership or specialist role.
• Proven experience working on Middle‑East projects and within a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) delivery model.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Design of static and rotating equipment (gas‑turbine driven compressors, pumps, generator packages, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns, tanks).
• Equipment layout development for new facilities.
• Specification preparation, equipment evaluation and documentation.
• Conceptual and detailed design, FEED and EPC review.
• Quality assurance and occupational health & safety compliance.
