Aerostat Operator I

About the role

Aerostat Operators provide Operations and Sustainment support for the Persistent Surveillance Systems‑Tethered (PSS‑T) program at OCONUS sites, operating aerostat‑mounted ISR platforms and associated equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Launch, in‑flight, recovery and mooring of aerostat systems, including Mobile Mooring Platform and sensor payloads.
• Perform user‑level maintenance: preventative maintenance checks, troubleshooting, LRU replacement, and payload changes.
• Operate and maintain support equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, ATVs and power generators.

Required profile

• High school diploma (or equivalent); associate degree may substitute for experience.
• At least 1 year aerostat experience or 2 years in related technical disciplines.
• Active Secret US Government clearance and US citizenship.
• Valid passport (≥6 months) and driver’s license.
• Physical ability to lift 50 lb, climb ladders, bend, kneel and walk extensively.

Required skills

• Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS).
• Troubleshooting and repair of electronic circuit boards and schematics.
• Hydraulic/servo valve and actuator maintenance.
• Control systems, test and diagnostic equipment operation.
• Networking and IT skills (Cisco, CCIE preferred, fiber‑optic certification).
• Mechanical maintenance of winch, tether, generator sets, HVAC and crane lifts.
