Hard Chrome Plating Technician

About the role

A specialized workshop in Kuwait is looking for an experienced Hard Chrome Plating Technician to restore, plate and finish ball valve balls and other precision industrial machine components. The work restores worn, corroded, pitted or damaged surfaces through controlled hard chrome plating, then grinds, polishes and finishes them to the required tolerances and surface quality.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect components for wear, corrosion, pitting, scoring and surface damage before plating.
• Clean, degrease, strip, prepare and mask components, and rack ball valve balls and other parts.
• Set up and operate hard chrome plating tanks and equipment, controlling current, voltage, temperature, plating time and chrome thickness.
• Build up worn surfaces with controlled chrome deposition, then coordinate grinding, lapping, polishing and finishing.
• Measure coating thickness and component dimensions with micrometers, vernier calipers, coating thickness gauges and dial indicators.
• Maintain plating baths, rectifiers, fixtures and tools, and keep accurate plating and inspection records.
• Handle chromium-based chemicals and waste according to HSE and environmental procedures, and coordinate with other workshop teams.

Required profile

• ITI, diploma or equivalent technical qualification in Mechanical, Electroplating, Surface Treatment, Machining or a related field.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in industrial hard chrome plating.
• Practical experience in hard chrome restoration of precision components; experience with ball valve balls, hydraulic rods, shafts, pistons, cylinders and rollers is preferred.
• Good knowledge of component preparation, masking, racking, chrome deposition, grinding, polishing and finishing.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality finishes.

Required skills

• Operating and monitoring industrial hard chrome plating equipment safely.
• Using precision measuring and inspection instruments.
• Understanding of chrome thickness, dimensional tolerances and surface finish.
• Preferred: plating bath/process control and troubleshooting, and knowledge of chemical handling, PPE and HSE.
