IT Engineering Manager – Build Scalable Systems

About the role

We are building an ambitious online business and need an IT Engineering Manager who can shape the engineering organisation from the ground up. You will own the engineering environment, guide architectural decisions and grow high‑performing teams.

Key responsibilities

• Make and influence architectural decisions for scalable, resilient systems.
• Design for high availability and low latency from the outset.
• Stay close to the code to understand and challenge implementations.
• Raise the bar for engineering quality, performance and reliability.
• Hire, coach and develop engineers, creating an environment for ownership and growth.
• Collaborate with product and business teams while maintaining engineering discipline.
• Address technical debt proactively and make sensible trade‑offs between speed, scalability and long‑term architecture.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering background with hands‑on coding experience.
• Deep knowledge of software architecture and system design.
• Experience building or operating high‑availability, low‑latency systems.
• Track record of hiring and developing strong engineers.
• Ability to make technical decisions in ambiguous situations.
• Experience in high‑transaction online environments (e‑commerce, fintech, marketplace, etc.) is highly relevant.
