Lead Contracts Engineer – Oil & Gas Projects

About the role

The Lead Contracts Engineer oversees all contract-related activities for large oil and gas facilities projects, from pre‑award bid preparation through post‑award administration and close‑out. This senior position ensures contractual compliance, manages negotiations, and supports the project team in delivering contracts on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare bid invitations, respond to bidder queries, and develop bid evaluation programmes.
• Evaluate bids, negotiate terms, and draft recommendation for award documents.
• Conduct kick‑off meetings, coordinate contract submittals, and manage correspondence.
• Prepare and process variation orders, adjustment orders, claims, and contract close‑out documentation.
• Draft Invitation to Tender packages for large O&G facilities and propose alternative clauses where needed.
• Collaborate with legal, risk, tax, and accounting teams to secure approvals.
• Monitor contract performance, ensure compliance with contractual terms, and keep the Contracts Manager informed of scope, financial, and risk aspects.
• Prepare client letters for approvals, manage acceptance documentation, and provide business and financial information as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Minimum 12 years of post‑graduation experience, including at least 5 years on oil and gas projects.
• At least 5 years in a senior or lead contract role.
• Extensive knowledge of contractual terms, conditions, and commercial contract law.
