MWR/Fitness Specialist

About the role

The MWR/Fitness Specialist operates physical fitness and wellness programs, recreational programs and social activities, including the operation and maintenance of recreational and fitness facilities. The specialist engages customers about programs and events, encourages participation and is present at events to run and monitor them. The position is 100% travel in the deployed location.

Key responsibilities

• Run the 24-hour Fitness Center and fitness and sports programs, keeping all PWS requirements met, and maintain and repair fitness equipment
• Officiate fitness events such as intramural leagues, weightlifting competitions, 5Ks, 10Ks, marathons and tournaments; assist with pool, lodging, linen and custodial operations
• Perform NAF re-sale cashier operations, including handling and selling alcohol products, and handle customer inquiries, check-ins and check-outs
• Host weekly events such as bingo, poker, foosball, dominoes, karaoke, pizza night, pool and ping pong, and run tournaments
• Provide library and learning resource support, including inventory, check-out and check-in, and barcode items
• Maintain facilities in a clean, sanitary, professional condition and keep complimentary items stocked
• Participate in loading, unloading and storing goods, and coordinate with OCN staff and other departments

Required profile

• 1 year of experience in DoD sports and fitness programs, or 2 years in a comparable civilian profession
• Valid U.S. driver's license; U.S. passport preferred
• Valid Residency Visa for Kuwait and ability to obtain and maintain it
• DoD Secret clearance, and ability to meet USCENTCOM deployment policy requirements
• Able to work in extreme heat and dust, and endure long hours and hazardous conditions

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of fitness programs, sports and officiating rules
• Beginner to intermediate Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Preferred: ability to officiate flag-football, soccer, volleyball and basketball
