Senior Mechanical Engineer – Ports & Marine

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, installation, maintenance and optimisation of mechanical systems for port operations in Kuwait. You will manage a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring high efficiency and compliance with international safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and supervise installation of mechanical systems for port infrastructure, including cargo handling machinery, conveyor systems and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment.
• Conduct technical analyses, troubleshoot failures, and implement corrective actions to minimise downtime.
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technicians, enforcing quality and safety standards.
• Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programmes to optimise equipment performance and extend asset life.
• Prepare technical documentation such as design specifications, maintenance manuals and SOPs.
• Ensure compliance with IMCA, ISO standards and local Kuwaiti regulations.
• Collaborate with operations, procurement and safety departments for equipment upgrades and maintenance scheduling.
• Evaluate vendor proposals and manage relationships with suppliers and contractors.
• Conduct risk assessments and HAZOP analyses, implementing mitigation strategies.
• Monitor equipment performance metrics and report to senior management.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 8 years in port, maritime or heavy‑industrial operations.
• Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and mentoring junior engineers.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English; Arabic is a plus.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, CATIA).
• Experience using engineering analysis tools (ANSYS or equivalent).
• Knowledge of international safety standards (IMCA, ISO 9001, ISO 14001).
• Maintenance management software and data analysis tools.
• Automation systems and control technologies for port operations.
• Predictive maintenance, reliability engineering and equipment lifecycle management.
