Study Specialist Engineer – Generation Connections, GCC Interconnection and Renewables (12 Months)

About the role

This 12-month role delivers specialist planning studies focused on generation connections, GCC interconnection, renewable integration and system security, turning system-analysis findings into practical network recommendations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct generation-connection and renewable-energy operational and planning studies, including assessment of suitable grid connection points.
• Study requirements for strengthening and connecting the Kuwait power system with the GCC Interconnection Grid.
• Review and evaluate operational and planning reports issued by the GCC Interconnection Authority and prepare technical comments.
• Support GCCIA workshops and prepare associated technical reports and observations.
• Study system balance under sudden loss of generation or load and assess operational issues affecting network stability.
• Assess renewable-energy forecasting, integration constraints, curtailment considerations and network investments needed for additional renewable generation.
• Support seasonal, substation-connection and network-expansion studies as required.

Required profile

• Strong experience in power-system planning, generation/interconnection and renewable integration studies.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline; postgraduate qualification desirable.

Required skills

• Knowledge of interconnected transmission-system behaviour and system stability principles.
• Experience reviewing complex utility study reports and turning findings into actionable recommendations.
• Technical analysis and modelling, utility engineering judgement, clear technical reporting, stakeholder coordination, quality and safety focus, and ability to work across multidisciplinary study teams.
