Cloud Architect – Apigee Specialist

About the role

The client, an international technology organisation delivering cloud and digital transformation solutions across the Middle East and Africa, is seeking a Cloud Architect with deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform and Apigee API management to join its technical architecture team in Kuwait.

Key responsibilities

• Design and document scalable, secure, cost‑effective cloud architectures on GCP, focusing on API‑first solutions using Apigee X/Hybrid.
• Define API gateway patterns, micro‑services integration, event‑driven designs (Pub/Sub) and enable seamless connectivity between digital channels, back‑end systems and partner ecosystems.
• Implement API governance, versioning, lifecycle management, security policies (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, rate limiting) and developer‑portal integrations.
• Deploy and manage GCP infrastructure components such as Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Run, networking and storage, ensuring high availability and compliance with regulatory standards (PDPL, NCA, GDPR).
• Monitor and optimise cloud and API consumption costs, establishing cost‑governance models and leading migrations from legacy gateways to Apigee.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning with Terraform, build CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Cloud Build, GitOps) for API proxies and cloud resources, and define disaster‑recovery procedures.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise‑scale solutions on Google Cloud Platform.
• Strong background in API management with Apigee (X or Hybrid) and API security frameworks.
• Hands‑on expertise in infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform) and modern DevOps practices.
• Ability to work with cross‑functional teams to align technical solutions with business objectives.

• Google Cloud Platform (Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, IAM, VPC Service Controls, Security Command Center)
• Apigee X / Hybrid – API proxy design, policies, shared flows, developer portal
• API security standards: OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, rate limiting, threat protection
• Terraform for IaC, including Apigee configurations
• CI/CD tools: Jenkins, Cloud Build, GitOps workflows
• Container orchestration with Kubernetes (GKE)
• Cost optimisation and cloud financial management
• Migration from legacy ESB/API gateways to Apigee
