Country Officer & Banking Head – Director (Kuwait)

About the role

Citi is seeking a senior executive to serve as the Country Officer & Banking Head for its Kuwait franchise. The role is the public face of Citi in Kuwait, responsible for leading the Institutional Clients Group, safeguarding the brand, and driving growth across public, private, and financial institution clients.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the overall client and business strategy for the Kuwait franchise, aligning short‑term and long‑term goals with corporate standards and local regulations.
• Ensure compliance with all corporate policies, ethical standards, governance requirements, and regulatory obligations.
• Identify, assess, mitigate, and communicate risks, establishing appropriate control mechanisms and reporting material issues to governance committees.
• Lead a matrixed team of approximately 35 employees, fostering collaboration across all business lines, product lines, and functions.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, government officials, regulators, media, and internal stakeholders to enhance Citi’s market position.
• Partner with HR to execute talent agendas, oversee franchise‑wide talent reviews, and drive employee engagement.
• Manage crisis or disaster response for the franchise and protect Citi’s reputation in the country.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in banking or financial services, preferably within an institutional client environment.
• Deep understanding of compliance, risk management, and corporate governance frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large, matrixed organizations and influence cross‑functional teams.
• Exceptional relationship‑building skills with external stakeholders such as regulators and government entities.
• Strong judgment and decision‑making capabilities aligned with Citi’s mission and vision.
