Chief Information Officer (CIO) – Senior Leadership

About the role

The American International University (AIU) is seeking a Chief Information Officer (CIO) to join its senior leadership team. Reporting directly to the President, the CIO will shape AIU’s digital future and ensure that the university’s technology infrastructure supports its RISE Strategy 2026‑2030. This role combines day‑to‑day management of a growing IT environment with long‑term planning for a research‑active, WASC‑accredited institution.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute a multi‑year IT strategic plan aligned with the university’s RISE Strategy.
• Lead the Digital Transformation Office to replace manual, SharePoint and Excel‑based processes with integrated, automated, data‑driven systems across administration, academics, research and student services.
• Oversee the optimization, integration and lifecycle management of enterprise platforms such as Banner (SIS), Canvas (LMS), Salesforce (CRM), Oracle Finance and Tableau, and evaluate next‑generation solutions.
• Champion the adoption of AI tools and advanced data analytics to improve administrative efficiency and support decision‑making.
• Ensure robust cybersecurity, data governance and compliance across all technology services.
• Direct the Information Technology division and collaborate with academic and operational leaders to align technology initiatives with institutional goals.

Required profile

• Senior technology executive with proven experience as a strategic partner to senior leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex IT environments in higher education or comparable institutions.
• Track record of delivering digital transformation projects that improve operational efficiency.
• Strong understanding of research‑intensive, accreditation‑focused university objectives.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills to guide cross‑functional teams.
