Environmental Protection Specialist – Expeditionary Civilian

About the role

The incumbent will serve as the senior Environmental Protection Specialist for DLA Disposition Services, supporting hazardous material and waste disposal operations in the CENTCOM area. This Expeditionary Civilian (EC) position is designated Emergency Essential and may require remaining in place during crises.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site reviews and inspections of hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities to ensure compliance with DoD, federal and state environmental regulations.
• Monitor and enhance customer relationships, coordinate outreach initiatives, and promote timely reutilization, transfer, donation or sale of surplus items.
• Analyze automated inventory accounts, verify hazardous property data integrity, and support strategic planning for DLA Disposition Services.
• Develop, coordinate and implement new or revised environmental policies, procedures, plans and programs.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain Secret clearance and meet EC Emergency Essential requirements.
• At least one year of specialized experience conducting environmental audits, training, and hazardous waste compliance activities equivalent to GS‑11 level.
• Physical ability to perform field inspections, walk on uneven surfaces, and wear Level C personal protective equipment.
• Willingness to serve on overseas rotations, including possible deployments of up to six months.
