Hourly Paid Young Learner Assistant

About the role

In this position you will work closely with the class teacher to create an inspiring English learning environment for young learners, supporting the British Council’s mission to foster global connections and cultural understanding.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and marshal students before and after classes, ensuring their health and safety.
• Monitor children during breaks and maintain a safe environment.
• Assist teachers in delivering English lessons by motivating students, helping with tasks, demonstrating activities, and modeling language.
• Provide translation support when needed to facilitate communication.
• Share feedback and participate in team discussions to improve courses and services.
• Support customer service by guiding parents and students, answering queries, and relaying feedback promptly.
• Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and equality policies to protect and value every child.

Required profile

• Experience working as part of a team.
• Working towards or holding a university qualification, preferably related to teaching.
• Experience working with children.

Required skills

• Basic translation ability to support communication.
