Lead Contracts Engineer

About the role

The Lead Contracts Engineer oversees all contract activities for large oil and gas facility projects, from bid preparation through post‑award administration. This senior position ensures contracts are prepared, negotiated, and managed in line with client procedures and commercial best practices.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare bid invitations, manage bidder queries, develop evaluation programmes, evaluate bids and negotiate award recommendations.
• Conduct kick‑off meetings, coordinate contract submittals, process variation orders, claims and contract close‑out.
• Draft Invitation to Tender packages and propose alternative clauses to client contract conditions.
• Collaborate with legal, risk, tax and accounting teams to secure approvals before contract submission.
• Monitor contract performance, ensure compliance with terms, and keep the Projects Contracts Manager informed of scope, financial and risk aspects.
• Produce and maintain documentation for change orders, client approvals, and facility acceptance.
• Provide business and financial information to clients as delegated by the Project Manager.
• Identify contractual issues, drive resolutions and uphold contract quality standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Minimum 12 years of post‑graduation experience, including at least 5 years in oil and gas projects.
• At least 5 years in a lead or senior contract role.
• Extensive knowledge of contractual terms, conditions and commercial contract law.

Required skills

• Strong contract management and negotiation capabilities.
• In‑depth understanding of bid evaluation and award processes.
• Ability to review and amend contract clauses in collaboration with legal and risk teams.
