Mechanical Metrology Engineer (Engineering Technician IV)

About the role

The Mechanical Metrology Engineer serves as the resident expert in metrology, working alongside the Kuwait Senior Engineer to provide engineering and consultancy services to the Government of Kuwait. The role involves researching new equipment, developing measurement techniques, and ensuring laboratory accreditation and quality assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Research and evaluate emerging metrology equipment and techniques for future acquisition.
• Assist in the development and implementation of a Metrology QA program and maintain laboratory accreditation.
• Develop new measurement methods for mechanical, electro‑mechanical, optical, electro‑optical, chemical and electro‑chemical calibration.
• Analyze equipment test requirements and prescribe calibration approaches, test equipment and servicing to ensure traceability.
• Create and evaluate calibration procedures for assigned equipment categories.
• Coordinate with technical societies and international engineering facilities to stay current with state‑of‑the‑art practices.
• Oversee laboratory facility and environmental control development, operation and maintenance.
• Liaise with civilian contractors and military civil engineering organizations to ensure timely project completion.
• Consult with GOK ministries on metrology facilities and environmental requirements, and collaborate with the Electrical Engineer on power production matters.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering, physics or related field, or completion of a U.S. military precision measurement and calibration school.
• At least twelve (12) years of experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic precision measurement equipment and laboratory reference standards.
• Demonstrated ability to develop calibration procedures and QA programs.
• Experience coordinating with contractors and international technical societies.
