Senior Material Engineer – Site

About the role

The Senior Material Engineer will support interior‑design and architectural projects by creating sample and mood products, advising on material, furniture and fabric costs, and maintaining a comprehensive material library. The role works closely with interior designers, architects, graphic designers, clients and contractors to ensure material selections align with design concepts and budget constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Create visual “sample” and “mood” products to communicate design ideas.
• Provide cost estimates and benchmark product options for materials, furniture and fabrics.
• Collaborate with designers and architects, offering material recommendations and alternatives.
• Organise, catalogue and maintain samples, catalogues and other material resources.
• Set project fees and costs according to budgetary limits.
• Coordinate with suppliers, industry representatives and oversee material launches.
• Maintain accurate records throughout the project lifecycle and develop a network of supplier contacts.

Required profile

• Proven experience in interior‑design or architectural projects, including consultations, renovations, space planning and new constructions.
• Background in a design firm or consultancy with a strong portfolio of completed work.
• Bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture or a related field.
• Additional professional training, memberships or certifications (e.g., LEED, WELL) are desirable.

Required skills

• Proficiency with pavement design tools such as AASHTO Ware Pavement ME Design or equivalent software.
• LEED certification (desired).
• WELL certification (desired).
