Software Engineer - MRZ & Identity Card Systems

About the role

MyApps is a cloud-based application provider offering paid and free applications on a monthly subscription model, built on a generic platform so users can access productivity tools on macOS, Linux, netbooks and tablets. The Software Engineer role is full-time and on-site in Kuwait City, designing, developing and maintaining cloud-based applications and platform services with a focus on performance, scalability and reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Write clean and efficient code and implement back-end services and APIs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new features.
• Participate in code reviews and improve development processes.
• Ensure secure and robust application deployment within the MyApps platform.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of proven experience in software development, preferably in identity card issuance systems.
• Experience with MRZ encoding, decoding and validation, and familiarity with ICAO Doc 9303 standards.
• Experience maintaining, troubleshooting and enhancing identity management and card issuance software; previous government, aviation or secure identification project experience is highly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to work in an on-site team, communicate clearly and manage several tasks at once.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Windows Server and web-based applications.
• Proficiency in programming and OOP, with at least one modern language such as Java, C# or Python.
• Hands-on back-end web development, including APIs, databases and server-side performance optimization.
• Experience reviewing and maintaining source code, adding security improvements and new features.
