Application Developer (IT)

About the role

The American International University (AIU) in Kuwait is hiring an Application Developer to build, enhance and support custom and enterprise applications that support academic operations, administrative processes and student services. The role reports to the IT Project Manager and works with senior developers and project managers to turn requirements into working applications.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test and maintain applications according to requirements and standards, and support enhancements and bug fixes following secure coding practices.
• Help integrate applications with enterprise systems such as SIS, LMS, CRM and analytics platforms, and take part in automation and optimization work.
• Work with stakeholders to understand functional requirements, support testing, user acceptance and deployment, and troubleshoot production issues and defects.
• Maintain technical documentation and ensure applications meet security, data protection and institutional policies.
• Develop and maintain dashboards with Power BI or Tableau; previous experience is an advantage but training is provided.
• Over time, with guidance from the Senior Application Developer, may help port PHP web apps to mobile, integrate AI features, and support locally hosted AI models while protecting data privacy.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology or a related field.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and take on additional responsibilities as the university grows.

Required skills

• Expertise in PHP, Laravel, SQL/MySQL, AWS and GitHub version control.
• Preferred: certifications in PHP, Laravel, AWS or web application development.
• Advantageous: mobile development and AI experience, and Power BI or Tableau.
