Assistant Mechanic

About the role

The Assistant Mechanic supports the rig’s engine and machinery operations, ensuring equipment runs safely and efficiently. You will work on‑site in a demanding environment, performing routine maintenance, watch‑keeping, and housekeeping tasks to keep the drilling operation reliable.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor engine and machinery temperatures, pressures, and oil levels; record daily logs.
• Report leaks, abnormal vibrations, or sounds immediately to the shift supervisor.
• Lubricate moving parts such as gears, shafts, and bearings on engines and auxiliary equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, and assist with larger engine repairs as directed.
• Enter all repair and maintenance actions into the company’s maintenance system.
• Carry out planned maintenance work orders on time, referencing OEM manuals for preventive and corrective tasks.
• Conduct stocktaking of maintenance materials and keep tools clean, serviceable, and properly stored.
• Maintain a clean, hazard‑free engine room and workshop, disposing of waste according to hazardous material policies.

Required profile

• Formal mechanic training (apprenticeship or technical degree) preferred; relevant certifications accepted.
• Minimum 1 year experience in drilling or work‑over operations with a reputable contractor.
• Experience on land rigs is a plus.
• Working knowledge of English.
• Physical ability to climb, lift, bend, and work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
