Dean, School of Arts and Sciences (Relocation to Kuwait)

About the role

The American International University in Kuwait is seeking a Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The role is full time and requires relocation to Kuwait. The School covers Chemistry, Biotechnology, Physics, Mathematics, English Literature, Humanities and Education, and the Dean acts as chief academic officer, promoting excellence in teaching, scholarship and community engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership for the school, including academic programs, faculty and operations across all disciplines.
• Oversee curriculum development, program assessment and continuous improvement.
• Manage budgeting, resource allocation and strategic planning.
• Lead faculty recruitment, development and performance management.
• Promote research and engage with the Advisory Committee, accreditation and quality assurance processes.
• Strengthen external communications, industry partnerships, internships and experiential learning.
• Represent the school in university leadership and contribute to institutional strategy.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or equivalent from a recognized university, with the rank of Professor in one of the school's disciplines.
• A record of excellence in teaching and research appropriate to the rank of Professor.
• Distinguished managerial experience in higher education, preferably as college dean in a reputable university.
• Published research in recognized international journals and participation in conferences and symposia.
• Experience in American-style or internationally accredited higher education systems is preferred.
• Bi-lingual proficiency in English and Arabic (spoken and written) is a plus.

Required skills

• Full familiarity with the credit hour and semester system.
• Knowledge of program accreditation standards and human resources, administrative and financial concepts.
• Strong communication skills and experience working with universities, associations, unions and businesses.
• Preferred: multi-cultural skills, knowledge of evaluation methods, use of technology in teaching, and experience launching pioneering projects.
