Dean, School of Engineering & Computing

About the role

American International University (AIU), a private institution in Kuwait founded in 2019, is recruiting a full-time Dean for its School of Engineering and Computing. The school covers eight engineering and computing departments and offers BSc degrees in them. The Dean reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and provides strategic, academic and administrative leadership, overseeing academic quality, faculty development, accreditation, research and innovation and operational effectiveness.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and management of the School, including faculty, programs and operations.
• Oversee all engineering and computing programs, ensuring academic excellence and market relevance.
• Lead curriculum development, scheduling, program assessment and continuous improvement.
• Manage budgeting, resource allocation and strategic planning.
• Oversee faculty recruitment, development and performance management.
• Promote research and scholarly activity across the School.
• Maintain and engage the Industry Advisory Committee and strengthen industry partnerships, internships and experiential learning.
• Lead accreditation and quality assurance processes, including ABET and related frameworks.
• Ensure accurate external communications, including the School's website, and support laboratory infrastructure and academic resources.
• Represent the School in university leadership and institutional strategy, and promote student success, retention, progression and employability.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or equivalent from a recognized university, with professor rank in one of the School's disciplines.
• Strong record of teaching and research, with published research in international journals and participation in conferences and symposia.
• Senior managerial experience in higher education, preferably at dean level, and familiarity with credit hour and semester systems.
• Experience with program accreditation standards and knowledge of HR, administrative and financial policies.
• Bilingual English and Arabic is a plus; experience in American or internationally accredited systems is preferred.
