Job description
About the role
The English School (TES), a non-profit, independent, co-educational British curriculum school in Kuwait, is seeking a Head of Prep to lead its Preparatory section. The role works alongside the Principal and Deputy Heads, combining strategic planning, curriculum leadership and pastoral oversight. It suits an educational leader with a proven record in senior or middle leadership.
Key responsibilities
- Lead strategic planning for the Prep School, building a culture of academic ambition, emotional wellbeing and personal growth.
- Oversee curriculum planning, progression and differentiation with the Deputy Head Academic and Phase/Subject Leaders; monitor teaching standards through lesson observations, planning reviews, work sampling and data analysis.
- Champion student wellbeing and behaviour with the Deputy Head Pastoral and Head of Learning Support, overseeing pastoral mentoring, student leadership, assemblies and ECA, and act as Phase Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL).
- Mentor teaching staff through CPD and performance reviews, help with recruitment and induction, and oversee daily cover and staff wellbeing.
- Coordinate phase resources, budgets and major supply orders with the DFO and Principal, and manage logistics for events, performances, trips and term schedules.
- Act as a visible, approachable leader for families, ensuring clear correspondence and positive relationships.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent British-recognised teaching qualification; further leadership accreditation is desirable.
- Proven senior or middle leadership experience in a British independent, prep or high-performing international school.
- Deep understanding of Key Stages 2 and 3 of the English National Curriculum and data-informed progress monitoring.
- Dedication to child protection and social-emotional wellbeing, ideally with a safeguarding or DDSL background.
- Exemplary professionalism, discretion, organisational acumen and strong interpersonal skills.
Applicants apply through the school's application form, including a letter of application describing their leadership philosophy and vision for the Prep School. Candidates must be prepared for child protection screening, including ACRO, DBS or equivalent checks. The school notes that female applicants cannot sponsor dependents under current Kuwaiti regulations, whereas a spouse with independent employment can.
