Lead Design Engineer I – Mechanical

About the role

KBR’s Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) group is seeking a Lead Design Engineer I – Mechanical to support a 5‑year PMC contract with Kuwait Oil Company. The role focuses on ensuring mechanical equipment design integrity for new and upgraded oil‑field facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all mechanical designs comply with project specifications, client, international and local standards.
• Prepare specifications and evaluate rotating equipment packages, including compressors, pumps and generators.
• Perform conceptual and detailed engineering design, review EPC detailed designs and vendor documentation.
• Allocate work to team members, ensuring tasks match competencies and supervision levels.
• Maintain quality assurance compliance and uphold health & safety procedures on site.
• Conduct site investigations, prepare reports and address constructability feedback.

Required profile

• Engineering degree in a relevant discipline.
• Minimum 15 years post‑graduation experience, with at least 10 years in mechanical design for the oil & gas sector.
• 5 years in a lead design engineering role and at least 3 years using automation software.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with large gas‑turbine driven compressors, pumps and generator packages.
• Experience specifying, evaluating and documenting rotating equipment packages.
• Ability to develop layouts for new facilities and work with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in automation software relevant to mechanical design.
