AI Technician

About the role

American International University (AIU), a private institution in Kuwait founded in 2019, is hiring an AI Technician for its Office of Research. The role reports to the Manager of Artificial Intelligence and Application Integration and supports faculty, students and project teams with AI prototype development, data preparation, automation, coding support, dashboards, documentation, tool testing, troubleshooting and project deployment. It strengthens the university's applied research capacity and keeps AI initiatives technically organised and aligned with research priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical support for AI research projects, applied research prototypes and digital research tools, and help faculty and students implement them.
• Develop and maintain simple software tools, scripts, prototypes, forms, automation workflows and AI-enabled utilities, using version control and structured documentation.
• Help with data collection, cleaning, organisation, anonymisation and preparation for AI and research analytics projects, and maintain structured datasets and code repositories.
• Support AI initiatives, research clusters, pilots, workshops, hackathons and proof-of-concept projects, and prepare technical materials for training sessions.
• Support dashboards, trackers and visualisation tools for research outputs, grants and KPIs, and work with the Research Data & Impact Analyst on technical aspects.
• Provide first-line technical support and troubleshoot issues with code, datasets, AI tools, dashboards and automation workflows, and prepare simple training materials.
• Follow responsible AI, data protection and research ethics policies, document limitations and risks, and escalate data quality, access, privacy, security or compliance concerns.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or a closely related field; master's degree preferred.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in technical support, AI projects, software development, data analytics, research technology or university project support.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, organisation and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of Python and/or other programming languages used in AI, data analysis, automation and prototyping.
• Preferred: machine learning libraries, data processing tools, APIs, databases, dashboards, web-based tools, Git/version control, documentation practices and testing.
• Awareness of data privacy, cybersecurity, research ethics and responsible AI practices.
